Industrial Systems Group
Written by Sue Poole
"In order to strengthen operations in" the "company's growing non-aircraft product areas" the Industrial Systems Group was expanded to include the Rail Transit Division, Antenna/Marine Division, Automove Systems Division, Housing Systems Program, Aerotrain Systems, and the Flxible Company (Rohr Corporation Annual Report 1970 30th Anniversary Year, 1970, p. 10).
Rapid Transit
"The major effort in the Industrial Systems Group during the year was design and prototype production of the highly advanced cars for San Francisco's Bay Area Rapid Transit District" (Rohr Corporation Annual Report 1970 30th Anniversary Year, 1970, p. 11).
"The first prototype car was delivered to BART on August 28, 1970. (Rohr Corporation Annual Report 1970 30th Anniversary Year, 1970, p. 12).
Revenue service was expected to begin in the fall of 1971 (Rohr Corporation Annual Report 1970 30th Anniversary Year, 1970, p. 11.)
Antenna/Marine Division
The capabilities of Rohr's Antenna Division extended "into the field of marine technology, as demonstrated by" the three "welded aluminum 65-foot patrol craft by the division for the California Department of Fish and Game" (Rohr Corporation. Undated brochure, p. 27).
In May 1970, Rohr received a $9.5 million Navy (Naval Ships Systems Command) contract for production of 61 landing craft (73-foot steel vessels) to be built at the Chula Vista plant. It was the largest marine product award for Rohr at the time. Deliveries were expected in spring of 1971 (Rohr Corporation Annual Report 1970 30th Anniversary Year, 1970, p. 14).

The Aerotrain is "a guided air-cushion vehicle with speeds in excess of 200 miles per hour" (Rohr Corporation Annual Report 1970 30th Anniversary Year, 1970, p. 13).
In the fall of 1969, Rohr acquired an exclusive manufacturing license and the basic air cushion vehicle technology (Rohr Corporation Annual Report 1970 30th Anniversary Year, 1970, p. 13).
Construction of the guideway and vehicle were expected to be completed in early 1971, and a demonstration vehicle in operation was expected in mid-1972.

Flxible Company
In addition to the main plant in Loudonville, Ohio, Flxible also had manufacturing operations in Millersburg, Ohio and Evergreen, Alabama. Flxible reported $25.2 million in the fiscal year concluded on June 30, 1969 (Rohr Corporation Annual Report 1970 30th Anniversary Year, 1970, p. 13).
When Rohr acquired Flxible, a well established manufacturer of transit buses and truck vans, it was expected to strengthen and diversify Rohr's position in the tranportation market for land, sea and air. (Rohr Corporation Annual Report 1970 30th Anniversary Year, 1970, p. 12, 13).
"Fiscal 1975 was a year of consolidation and strengthening for the Industrial Systems Group." Rohr Industries highlighed the Rohr-Plessy Buy-Out, Material Handling, Communications and Construction under the Industrial Systems division in their annual report (Rohr, 1975, p. 12, 13).
